The next day we showed some new friends how our Volkswagen operates. Named the De Wits, both are graduate physics students near the completion of their theses. They are a very remarkable couple: both blond (she is Latvian-Danish, he Dutch) and very good-looking, dress very nicely and are both theoretical physicists. the very hardest kind of physicist to be, both geniuses, I guess. They just blew up their ancient car (a rod cracked the engine block on the Pennsylvania turnpike) and want a VW, but wanted to see how it drives. Today we take them to the grocery store (our trip too) and also to our friendly VW repair man in town for advice on the best place to get a car quickly. They are friends of our good (old) friends the Weiners, who moved to Baltimore last summer, [[crossed-out]] th [[/crossed-out]] Ronald DeWit's brother, owned the mother of our cat Penelope, etc. so we have a number of things in common. I hope we get to know them better, [[crossed-out]] I a [[/crossed-out]] since we both admire them good deal.

Now comes the big push for finals. We expect to be very busy, dropping social life for a while I guess. Sorry our other letter was so late, we were quite rushed upon our return. Now I must make lunch.

Love,
Doris
