Dear folks, 
Your package got here remarkably quickly .. two days ago, taking no longer to travel than your letter. I trust our package fared as well, sent a little earlier. We opened it and removed the cheese and other condiments, but have prevented each other from touching anything else. Remember that big wooden nut bowl (with crackers) someone gave us as a wedding gift? It is, for the first time, full of nuts & candy and I'm sorry no one is here to have a nut with us, it looks so nice!

We will probably leave Urbana early Saturday morning (Dec. 21), and return to Urbana the day after Christmas (& one day later). Friday afternoon, at 2:30 to be exact, Jack will give a little talk in the weekly "micro collequiem" of the Frauenfelder group, on [[strikethrough]] the [[/strikethrough]] his equipment and plans for its ease. He has been making the final assembly never and tests of performance in the last few days with success and is surprised at the speed & readiness of it all, & eager to get it into use taking data on the first experiment. Our early return will be to enable to work on it, as well as to study for exams. 

I can just see Dad doing his Christmas shopping at the last minute! I guess he always had, haven't you, Dad? As a matter of fact we will do some ourselves this weekend, the small gifts for more distant relatives and friends of the Chicago groups who will exchange gifts together. I will
