He flunked it last year just at the time his wife had a baby.

As for Christmas presents. I hope you let me know if there's anything you want, if you don't want surprises... As for us: I think I need some more of that good mesh hose; some underwear (rayon, please!); more gloves (last x-mas' gloves won't quite finish out the winter, with their heavy use riding the bicycle); here, I hope I can describe : in the D.C. area [[strikethrough]] local [[/strikethrough]] grocery there in a dispenser I haven't found in the midwest:
[[image]] push button stuff come out [[/image]]
This dispenser is plastic, I believe, on plastic + glass. I can't think of anything else special I need. For Jack : a pen like the one you gave me (different color to distinguish only?): his present pen has twice leaked onto pockets, a mess. He also can always use drawers; and a second pajama set would help, when bad weather keeps the first damp. Also (I can think of more for him than myself), one of those little odin vest sweaters I have seen so many of lately, in some color other than gray or brown--maybe dark red, [[strikethrough]]dark[[/strikethrough]] blue, medium or light green.

We will go to Chicago on Nov. 29, return Dec. 2. I hope to do my Christmas shopping there, if I can get a good idea what everybody wants by then; I must write Jack's mother soon. We may go to the opera then - some fine singers in Chicago Opera Co. are performing about that time.

For the present-

Love,
Doris
