Dear folks,
After arrival we, especially I, plunged into a vast number of jobs that are only now beginning to thin out a little. We had to examine & rearrange all our stuff; build & paint kitchen shelves; get & install extension cords, sewn, shades (landlord gave), lamps; buy books & supplies; as well as attend classes. We also took a carfull of presently useless materials to Chicago, which took all last week end & cut down study time. As a result I have been behind in all my studies.

The pace this year will be a little harder. Advanced calculus is not the snap that calculus was, mainly. But Russian is being taught by an easier teacher & Physics is not so hard.

Jack received his research assistantship, as I may have written. Almy, the head of the department, said to him when he came in to register, "I'll bet you'd like to know what kind of an appointment you have this year" and then proceeded to go thru the registration procedures. When he was done & Jack walked to the door, Jack said, "Yes, what kind of appointment do I have?" and Almy replied "I guess you got it". So I guess he did!
