Sorry Dolores is having trouble but these days no complication is very serious, for they can handle it well, so she shouldn’t worry. I’ll write her, but there probably isn’t time. I’ve heard of [[strikethrough]] some [[/strikethrough]] same complication from almost every mother I knew, and the only bad one is to have a child born dead. (don’t worry, I won’t mention it!).

I think it a good idea to allow someone to live in your place when you are gone. If we go into the University business, which seems likely now, we will spend many summers out of town and certainly will leave the house occupied -- by a poor graduate student or two, to be kind to folks like us for a change.

What’s this about trapping woodchucks?

We have two squirrel visitors at our window and feed them peanuts thru the screen: an old moth eaten one who is scary and a pretty young one who sits [[strikethrough]] right up [[/strikethrough]] with his back right up against the screen, not watching me (a sign of trust) while he eats peanuts very slowly like a child. There is a starling nest over the bedroom window and the squirrel-starling dialogue has wakened us more than once.

Love,
Doris
