employment. I took the steno exam on March 12 and haven't heard a word yet. It is processed in Chicago & you aren't supposed to write them. I wonder if you can find out anything in D.C.: namely, what will I still have to do at Bureau of Standards when (& if) I get on the Civil Service register -- if there will be clearance to go thru necessarily, etc., if I should write them as soon as I hear, & to what address, etc. Also, do new employees have to take a physical examination? I like to have one every year, but if I'm going to get one from the gov't I won't do it here. 

The physics exam was last night. Don't know how I did yet. It was a harder exam than the first one, and I was better prepared. Hard to say. I only want a B...

We are having to pay a property tax this year. Sounds as tho' it's $3 on each $100- which, if we are honest, will be a blow-- but Jack will see [[strikethrough]] today [[/strikethrough]] tomorrow. It's due Monday. A most confusing tax. We already mailed the Internal Revenue $60, another shock. We had a good income last year, I guess.
