Dear folks,

We're on the eve of starting for Chicago -- we go tomorrow afternoon and return Sunday afternoon. We both have hour exams the following Wednesday. Vacation officially began Tuesday and lasts until next Wednesday.

We had friends Beatrice and Henry over last Saturday night for supper and I tried a new dish -- Chinese sweet and punjent pork. It was very successful and I'll make it this summer if you can stand one serving of fried foods. I was always crazy about it in the Chinese restaurants & it really doesn't take much skill -- tho some time -- to make.

We have started an aquarium again, tho' not much is out in the pond (Crystal Lake) yet -- only water insects and snails. We've had strange luck, which perhaps you might be able to explain: within a day, all snails died, & later everything but copepods died. There is a mass of green algae & some leaves & pond water -- nothing else. Copepods are really flourishing.

The weather is cool here & rainy. We had snow last week too. Doesn't seem as if spring would ever arrive.
