at last fall's toughie were up for their last try, as well as the new faces, among whom were my current physics instructor, a nice fellow named Friedes. It was an easy exam and hopes were high: but exactly 1/2 passed. Among those not passing was a nice girl (2nd try), a friend of Jack's whom he greatly admires (2nd try) physics instructor, poor Friedes. So we felt very sad for them. I have begun going in with Jack when he studies there in the office & meeting his friends more. Friedes has a badly crippled wife. He has a pleasantly [[strikethrough]] rough [[/strikethrough]] harsh manner & usually comes up in lab and grabs my lab report from beneath my pen (I write a lot, which he hates to read) but today in lab he waited patiently -- & sadly -- for us to turn them in. He'll probably be much kinder for a while. Fortunately he has another try left. I'm so glad Jack passed that time.

Looks as if Sophy needs psychological or spiritual help in the worst way, & wish she would seek it. It's a gamble, of course, but in her case it might pay to gamble.

Jack is always losing his car -- on days when he parks in a big hurry -- & sometimes he walks blocks & blocks furiously hunting for it.

P.S. Thanks for the quiz. Jack got 5 right.

Well,

Love,
Doris
