modern american cars, so I look forward to it.

We are in pretty good financial shape at this New Year point. We've actually been saving money this fall out of his instructor's pay & the G.I. and I sent $500 to the D.C. savings [[strikethrough]] back [[/strikethrough]] bank (3 1/2%) early in January (which they were kind enough to make eligible for June dividends (from Jan 1). So we have $1000 again in savings & a sizeable checking account; a car which has not depreciated from its original $1200 (price on used Volkswagens are going up a little; & parts have just come down 10% across the board) much if any. This as well as numerous purchases made this year of vacuum cleaner, hi-fi components, & Christmas. We are both covered by health insurance (with a new "catastrophe" clause the University added), so fear no great losses.

Jack's mother just sent us the pictures we took in Chicago. Some of them are very funny, some in ways that the participants must not appreciate (they were all candids by me). On one shot Jack's brother was working on his own flash attachment & thought it had gone off by mistake when it took the picture, so he leaped about frantically.

I had better get to studying now, as my worst exam is in 1 1/2 days.

Love,
Doris
