There are now more than 100 pupils qualified to enter such a school and make the best use of the best advantages.

I have been making strenuous efforts for many months to secure the creation of such a building. And I am happy to report progress to the following extent.

The Bureau will furnish the brisk necessary which will be 150000 and the team work to haul the materials upon the ground. The Amer. Freedmen Union will furnish $5000 cash which will pay for the lot (60 by 120 feet) and erect the building.

The colored people, by contributions of labor and money, will prepare the ground for the foundation, will erect the outer buildings and fence the whole, and, I think purchase a bell. There remain to be provided for the settees for the Assembly Room and Recitation Rooms, desks and seats for the school rooms, some philosophical apparatus and stoves and funnel.

Now my friend and coworker may we depend on you for substantial help? I would be very glad to have you call at No 76 John St. and confer with Rev Lyman Abbott, Sec Am F.U.Com. and see plan of the building & consider whether your association has not a common intent in this matter, and whether this is not a field of effort promising large returns of good to the Freedman.
