Rev. Edward E Hale
Sec. S.M. Soc.

Dear Sir:
In reply to yours of the 12th inst. I am directed by Gen. Brown to say that the Bureau has control of no buildings, suitable for teachers quarters, aside from those at the Bakery and at the Laboratory. The teachers for both the white and colored schools occupied the quarters at the Laborary during the Fall and Winter, and afterward both occupied the house at the Bakery. If the bake-house, contiguous to the dwelling, were fitted up as dormitories and used in connection with it, the whole would be ample, convenient and respectable for the teachers of both associations. If, however, your societies prefer that their teachers should live separately, it will be necessary to them to make some amicable arrangement in respect to quarters, or one or the other rent quarters in the city. Would it not be well for your agent to come on immediately and perfect arrangements?
