that is the constantly unsupplied demand of the present.

The present condition of the enterprise is as follows: The Bureau offers $1000. The Commission $2500. and the colored people what they can do. It will required $1200 to $1800 more; and unless the enterprise is soon undertaking, we shall lose the Bureau appropriation.

Now for my proposition. The ladies at my house are very much interested. Miss Baker of Me. — a very candid and judicious lady — says she knows she can get the money, entirely outside your usual obstacles, of men of wealth, has acquaintances and kindred — in sums of $100, $[[?]] &c. She asks nothing of you but the privilege of going and getting it (not using more than three or four weeks), and will not call on you to meet any expenses. Her confidence, and her command of the friends to whom she will apply, and the special forces the appeal would have, from the lips of an earnest lady who had traveled all the way from Va. to Me to make it, inspires in me some confidence in her success. Her school can be well provided for in her absence. Shall she go?
