Lieut:

I have the honor to inform you that your communication accompanied by that of Rev. Geo. Ripple, has been recd and acted upon. On conferring with Gen. Brown it was concluded that the best we could do is to appropriate $100 with the expectation that the freedmen will procure logs for the walls of the house without expense, and that the appropriations will supply all the sawed lumber, doors, windows, and nails which may be needed, and that the freedmen will build the house. This they ought to do.

I write this as an unofficial letter, and said direct rather than through the channels' both to save time and to let you know the plan at these head head quarters.

I am Very Respy,
