I think 2500 or 3000 rather a large estimate of the number who could, through the agency of the sum you name, be kept in school.
I should say that 2000 would be a safe estimate : That would be $2. each pupil for the year or 25 cts per month for a school, say of eight months. How inexpensive and yet how noble a result!
As a practical method how would this work- to bestow your benefaction to each school in proportion to the average monthly attendance. 25 cts per month per pupil for the average attendance- the schools to be reported to the Bureau through the usual channels- This is a mere suggestion.
I have contemplated the reduction of our schools the coming year, with great sadness; and hail the suggestion you have made with corresponding pleasure.
