Miss Ellen Collins

Of the immortal six, who have associated themselves to continue the work -

I am sorry to be obliged to advertise you that the city of Richmond seems likely to recede from the arrangement it made to aid in the support of schools. We are in the midst of great fight with the Council half of whose members by the terms of latest Amendment to the Constitution are not eligible to hold their places- and yet by the favor of the adverse military do hold them. We may come out right yet-shall if Grant is elected-and then we shall have the city council in our own hands and will work our sweet (righteous) will and help the schools. But nothing now can be relied upon more than we can collect from the scholars. Will this make any difference with your supply of teachers
