My Dear Miss Jones

School matters have assumed a new phase since you left, and I am afraid very much to our inquiry. The city council, then, as you remember had agreed to pay half the salaries; now they refuse to pay anything and nothing is to be hoped for from that quarter. I shall be very sorry if should defeat the return of the teachers whom I had expected to return. Hence I am writing to the teachers to learn how their matters start in the hope of being able to help them if there is need of help. What is your auxiliary, and what may be depended upon from there? There will be some small sources of income here within my reach which I can turn in to help in your support, and if I knew how much you can depend upon from the north. I could tell whether it will be possible to make up the deficiency here.
Hoping you are well as possible and gay as becomes the gravity of a dignified "N.G.", and in the fullest enjoyment of vacation and home, and that no Elder will get you into a silken cage just yet. I am Truly Yours xo R.M. Mauly
