Col. S.P. Lee, Sub Asst. Com'r.

Dear Sir: I am under orders to visit Alexandria for the purpose of preparing for some schools under colored teachers, in the rooms not otherwise supplied with teachers. The circumstances are as follows. The N.Y. Branch will send four white teachers - some of their most efficient. It is desired to employ four colored assistants if suitable ones can be found, to occupy the remaining rooms of one of your large school buildings and labor under the immediate supervision of the white teachers. Can you aid me in finding the suitable sable candidate for pedagogical honors? I expect to be in Alexandria Wednesday P.M. and if you could from your knowledge of or inquiries bring me some of these, it would much facilitate my work.

I shall leave Baltimore tomorrow and return to Alexandria Wednesday.
