Mrs. Lowell, Mem. Com. &c
Dear Madam: I have letters this morning from yourself and Miss Collins. In this I reply to both. Misses Renne & Jones arrived in good season and are at work. All the pupils are turned upon them. I shall endeavor to borrow some teachers of the Friends Soc. for a few days.

The ladies for whom I asked commissions are at their posts. Please grant one also for Miss Roberta D. Scott (colored) of Richmond who is to teach at "Ayletta King William Co." When I asked for commissions in the other cases I stated that they were not to involve you pecuniarily. That was when I expected that the unusual aid to come from the Bureau would pass through the office directly. Now I understand that the Hd Qrs at Washington will pay to the Sec. $10 per month (calling it "rent") for each teacher. I hope, therefore, you will see your way clear to put in this $10 when you get it toward support of these teachers whom I ask you to commission.

I was in Washington Thursday, and learned the above to be substantially the facts of which you will have official notice I suppose. I understand that Mr. Melton was there and understands the matter
