Genl. Thomas

I enclose blanks for Mr. Saferight to sign and also to fill up the upper blank. If his teaching covered a portion of two months let him sign both setts of blanks, and I will send to you, for him, 25 cts per month on the average attendance - the uniform method of disbursing said fund. I do this to relieve Mr. S. who is not responsible for the position in which he was placed. He was employed before the time for schools to commence (and to having the beginning of the [[strikethrough]] school [[/strikethrough]] Bureau school year) and put into a school which for three years had been maintained by the Friends Society and no intimation rec'd from them of an abandonment of the post. According to unvarying usage they were entitled to continue, as I was well aware, and informed you, they would do.

I repeat that where teacher and pupil are brought together a moderate support will be extended, but of course previous arrangement must be made.

You write on the 27th Sept. that you have employed Mr. S. I reply on the 30th Sept. that "I had understood from Mr. Jones that the Friends would send a teacher" and again on the 6th Oct. I wrote you positively that they would send one or two teachers: and yet you say without a note of warning a Miss Wadsworth appears. I designed my letter of 30th Sep. as a note of warning and insist that that Oct 6. was such.
