Dear Friend: Yours of the 18th inst. is recd and considered. I would be glad to aid your school if it were practicable, but it could only be done by repudiations obligations already assumed. I am limited to a specific sum per month, in any expenditures from the Peabody fund; I have already incautiously exceeded that limit and am now retrenching by dropping off some of the less meritorious schools and reducing the allowance to others, and taking up no new ones.
I cannot willingly believe that the  Protestant Episcopal Church, with it almost boundless wealth, will allow its few schools to languish, and abandon other points where school houses have been created specially for it by the Bureau at the earnest solitations of its agency
