George Madkins
Dar Sir: I am glad that your people are interested in having teachers, and that they have the good sense to prefer good teachers to poor ones. You are mistaken supposing that the Government sends teachers anywhere. It does not. The Government only provides the school-houses, and charitable societies heretofore have sent the teachers. But hereafter they will send them only where the people help themselves. How much can your people do toward supporting a a school? Everything depends on that. I shall be glad to assist you if practicable; but it will be necessary that your people work together and work hard to help themselves. Let me know how much can be depended upon—and do not overstate it.
Yours Truly
