Dear sir: Yours of the 7th is at hand. Rev. C. Robinson of Alexandria has been corresponding with reference to the school house of Crooked Run. My last letter to him will show how the matter stands at present. I will present an extract as follows: viz: "From inquiries we have made in regard to a school at Crooked Run, it appears that the building is under way, and is on land presented by Mr. Franklin Hudson, who is represented as willing to make a deed of it for school purposes. Before any assistance can be rendered by the Bureau it will be necessary to have the land deeded to trustees, from three to 5 in number for school purposes. When the trustees are ready to enter into a contract to complete the building for $160. that amount will be appropriated. Some of the trustees must be pecuniarily responsible as have intelligence and knowledge of business. These requirements are in accordance with instructions from Washington and are applicable in all cases."
Rev C. Robinson asked for $160. and that much will be granted when the above conditions are fulfilled. It will of course be necessary for the People at Crooked Run to raise such further sum as may be necessary, so that the trustees can safely enter into the contract named. The deed must have a clause binding the trustees to hold the property "for school purposes for freedmen or for children irrespective of color forever." I hope steps will be taken speedily to carry forward this enterprise
