Mr. Alvin Varner
Pamplins Depot, Appomattox Co. Va

Sir

I received a letter dated May 27th 1869 from Thos. I. Lythgoe, stating that he had been sent to take charge of the Tower Hill School in place of R.V. Shemer, resigned - and on June 7th answered his letter, stating that when a change is made in name of person to whom rent is paid, I must have notice of such change from Soc. sending teachers out.

Have examined my reports and had no report of the Tower Hill School. The rent for May has been reported in Mr. Shemer's name, and the vouchers must be signed by him before the rent for that month can be paid. After they are signed the money can be paid to whoever it is intended for. Vouchers were sent to Mr. Shemer May 24th. If rent is desired for the Tower Hill School Hse, I should like to be so informed as soon as possible. If desired it will be paid on condition that reports are promptly made and that the average attendance shall be at least 30 scholars. School report blanks were sent Mr. Lythgoe - June 7th 1869.

Yours &c
R.M. Manly
