James N. Pattison

Dear Sir:

The only way in which I can know anything about schools at a distance - I mean anything which will be satisfactory to me - is to receive letters and reports from the teachers in their own hand-writing.

If the teacher at "The Marsh" wants anything let him write for himself, with own hand, stating all the facts that I should wish to know. I make the same remark in regard to teachers at Pleasant Hill, Rural Retreat, Cripple Creek &c.

This is necessary in order that I distinctly know whom I am dealing with, their qualifications &c.

At the same time I thank you heartily for all your interest and efforts in behalf of scholars.

Yours Truly
R.M. Manly
Supt. Education
