Miss Julia M. Bartlett

Yours of the 13th is at hand. I had a letter two or three days since from Hen Corprew wishing me to write to him assurance that the school was not be a denominational enterprise, but to all. This he said was to allay the apprehension of the Methodist brethren. I wrote accordingly. But with only $1500 to use, I felt obliged to write in a letter that the proposed school-house could only accommodate the advanced class and not the primary schools. Fifteen Hundred Dollars will build a house with one good school room and perhaps a small classroom off. It might build a house 24 by 36 feet (one story) and not larger, which would accommodate, say 60 pupils for one Master and an assistant. I wish to build and complete by the 1st of Oct. and if any money is to be put with the $1500 of the Bureau it should be done by the middle of August, at the latest. I can do nothing about raising additional funds, and shall have to leave that with you.

Yours Truly
