Miss C.F. Putnam

Yours of the 26th is just at hand. I reply immediately. All payments for transportation have been discontinued since last March and no more will be made. Neither Miss Crosby's nor Miss Haslam's could be collected of the Govt., but under the circumstances I will do, what I have not done before and do not expect to again, pay them out of the Peabody fund. I enclose $7.00 for that purpose. There will be no return transportation, either way, for teachers.

I did not know that you were still on the "Northern head"- am glad to hear that you are there, exceedingly glad to hear of the coming of other teachers, of the completion of school-houses &c, and shall be glad to cooperate with yourself and any other teachers whom you may recommend and with the freedmen in providing school-houses and in the support of schools. If you think Parker & Wiggins competent to be useful as teachers, I will thank you to give me their P.O. address, so that I may come into communication with them, have regular reports from them, and extend some aid to them. Perhaps you can soonest get some blanks into
