Rev N. C. Brackett

Dear Sir:

In reply to yours of the 31st Ult. I should think you ought to hold the property at Lexington until a board of Trustees can be organized of such good material as to give you full assurance that who you deed them the property they will hold and administer it for the benefit of the freedom. Are there not one or two white men in Lexington of sufficient intelligence and knowledge of business to act in this capacity in connection with three or four of the best colored men? Such a board ought to be formed, if possible, and receive appointment from the Circuit Court.

The $10. per month rental on your Summer Schools will be collected in the usual way, i.e. the Rental Acct. is made out by the Sec. or Chief Executive officer of your Society, and forwarded to me for "verification" by the reports of the teachers on file in my office. I forward it to Genl. Howard and he sends the money to the Soc.

It is vital that teachers make their reports correctly and on the day. I enclose a blank.
