Dear Sir:

Your favor of the 5th inst is at hand. My Peabody Fund Accts. with Dr. Sears, to June 30th are closed and cannot be reopened, besides the funds appropriated for the last school are all expended. If you judge Martha Cornish to be a suitable teacher I will aid her in the future. I would like a report from her, in her own hand of her last months school, and a description of the house or room in which she teaches - its size, also whether it is a public or private building, whether any rent has to be paid for it or not. I shall be glad to aid in opening additional schools in your county. I don't think the rebels will execute their severe threats as long as they remain out of the union. They are too anxious to get in to do much that would peril their prospects.
