I have the honor to report as follows on the communication of Rev. A. John Stewart, referred to me August 3rd Ult. with instructions to investigate and report.  I have visited Mr. Stewart at Gordonsville, and have conferred with the N.E. Branch F.U. Com. at Boston. 

The government owns a schoolhouse at Gordonsville, properly located, and in fair condition, and of sufficient size to accommodate the children wishing to attend school.  The Boston Association has maintained a school in this building, with five teachers during the last four years, and proposes to continue to the same in the future.  Through conversation with the colored pastor of the Church and others there, I became satisfied that this pastor enjoys the confidence and approval of the people interested.

Mr. Stewart is living upon rented premises which it is understood are not for sale and he proposed to expend the money he asks for
