Rev. Dr. Hatfield

Dear Sir:

Yours of the 3d with Miss Eastmans of 1st enclosed is rec'd. The addition to Miss Eastmans school-house is necessary and must be had. I understood her (it may have been a misunderstanding) when I met her in Potsdam, that the work was already in progress and that she was raising money to meet the expense. I am restricted to small expenditures of that kind, but shall be glad to aid. I had supposed that Capt. Schaeffer would attend to the details of the building. As soon as I am informed what will be the cost of the addition and what may be expected from the Freedmen and Miss Eastman's efforts I will appropriate as much as the circumstances will warrant. Please have Miss E. give such information as she has and I will write to Capt Schaeffer immediately.

Very Respy
R.M. Manly
