J.J. Carter Sept. 6 9

Dear Sir,

It is not for me to say how much salary you shall receive, but for your Society. I hope you will have a good salary, for there will be a good deal of work, and I think you will an assistant. Forty Dollars would be a good salary of itself, and would relieve the people from paying, but they might not be relieved. They expect to pay and it is better for them that they should do it.

The societies will arrange among themselves which shall commission you, but I think you may depend on coming to Ayletts.

Yours Truly
R.M. Manly
Supt Ed.

I have just returned from a long absence from this city. Hence the delay in writing.
