Mrs. J.S. Lowell

I had to go north a second time and have just returned. Hence a little delay in replying to yours of the 13th & 14th.

Mrs. Alston goes immediately to Mangohic [[Mangohick]], King Wm. Co. (the extreme upper end) to open school Oct. 4, and expects, I believe to be commissioned by you - and is certainly worthy.

Eltham (where Owens was) is reached by coming by York River Route from Baltimore, stopping at West Point and procuring ferriage and conveyance from there.

King William C.H. is reached by stage from Fish Haul Station on the York River R.R. - does not require coming to Richmond. Cherry Lane is reached by private conveyance from "Sweet Haul" station (3 or 4 miles) on York River R.R. Does not require to come to Richmond. Mr. Dungy is the Colored man to go to.

Tunstalls School House is about 4 miles from Tunstalls Station York River R.R. Does not require to come to Richmond.

None of the above should come by Steamer, but should take Cars N.Y. R.R. morning express (8.40 I think) to Baltimore and then take the York River Boat, 4 P.M. to West Point. They will buy their tickets through to Richmond, ($12, some as by steamer) because tickets are not sold to the stations short, and if they were the price would be the same.
