Chas. H. Carter:

Yours of the 21st is recd. I wish you would help me to a better understanding of matters in Richmond Co. We have a school at Farnhams Cross Roads, and one at Pine Grove, taught by Isaac T. Duval. Solomon Saunders sends a letter in your handwriting from Grove Mount. Is not this the same as Pine Grove, or very near? Are you teaching? If not why not.

If the people at Chelton's Fork, or Templeman's X roads have a suitable place in which a school can be held, and if there is a teacher there (a suitable one) I can assure the assistance named in my letter of the 4th. If they have not a suitable place in which to hold a school and wish to build, I may aid them a little in that. The thing of first importance is a teacher. I cannot procure teachers to go over there.

Yours Truly,
R.M. Manly
