Dear Sir:

Mrs. Elaine M. Kilbourne, a teacher-advisor at Anacostia High School, has applied for a secondary school teacher and counseling certificate in your state. This lady is a superior teacher, relates well with her fellow teachers and students and is a tireless worker. Mrs. Kilbourne has been a high school teacher since September 1, 1948.

The attached letter from Mrs. Kilbourne to me more adequately details what she has been doing in her school than I could. Incidentally, everything she says is true -- I was once her principal.

We would hate to lose this superior teacher.

Very truly yours,
John D. Koontz
Assistant Superintendent

Dear Mrs. Kilbourne:

I wish to thank you for so many contributions to Anacostia High School that I hardly know where to begin. You have been a regular whirling dervish -- and I don't mean it literally.

Your invaluable help with testing, with the Student Council, with the Science Talent Search, the Science Fairs, and your tremendous influence in bringing out the best in young people mark you as truly an outstanding teacher.

This letter has been prompted today because of your tireless and effective efforts to make Memorial Day ceremonies so meaningful to students and to parents of our heroes.

They are going to miss you around here.

Sincerely,
Eugene E. Griffith
