Dear Sir: The sum allotted to Virginia for "repairs rental and construction" for the current school year has been running through so rapidly that it is clear that not more than one third of the sum you name could be spared for Staunton. But allow me to say I do not believe in building a $3000 school house in Staunton. Of course I say this in view of the limited funds, the very many equally pressing demands, and the fact (as I judge) that we should leave something for the tax payers to do in all such prosperous towns. I do believe in building a less expensive house (first rate in style and construction) not large enough to accommodate all, but to accommodate two teachers with as many of the more advanced pupils as they can instruct, leaving the more primary scholars to be otherwise accommodated. I would have the people of Staunton (the [[?]] people) furnish the lot and the foundation at least.

Please write more fully.
Have you sent teachers to Lexington?

Yours Truly,
R. M. Manley
Supt Ed
