C.S. Schaeffer, Asst. Supt

Dear Sir:

I suppose this will reach Christiansburg about the time you will. It was better that you remained at Phil. to organize 'aid and comfort.' Accept for yourself and convey to the elect ladies at your house, for me, the best wishes of the season.

I think your travel expense had better be made out, as you suggest from Burkville to Christiansburg, but have the time charged for, cover the month and also your subsistence.

I have sent stove and pipe to Corliss, [[checkmark]] and shall send him $100 in a few days, and some more afterward.

Mark Smith [[checkmark]] sends me Peabody Vouchers for aid, but I have already paid for him to the Society, as I have also for all the rest of their teachers in So. Western Va. I cannot pay twice for Mark. I wish you would explain it to him.

I have applied for $8.00 per mo. rent for Fred'k Washington, [[checkmark]] Longtown, Floyd Co. I have to be cautious in expenditures hereafter. I can see the beginning of the end of the money.

Yours truly,
R.M. Manly
Supt Ed
