cannot do more than board them.  They are generally failing to do that fully.  The colored people are emigrating to Miss. Ala. and La. from Va. at the rate of at least 2000 each week, to escape the starvation that is at their doors - nay in their cabins - on account of the drought of last summer.  How are these normal graduates to have the "good places with sure and sufficient pay" which I agree with you in desiring for them, if there is nobody to take the pecuniary responsibility?  I do not exaggerate when I say that I could put 100 such young men as Miss Gardners' "Robert," immediately into positions of great usefulness if there was a support for them.
