Thos. J. Davis

Sir:

I ought to write to you at once, that I shall not be able to get any aid for you from any Society. The Friends (Phil.) are not willing to take you up again. I have asked the N.Y. Friends and they refuse. Mrs. Lowell is turning her schools over to another Society, and will not employ you. The Presbyterian Soc. is about to close 15 of its schools for lack of means to carry them on. All I can do is to pay you $10. per month in the form of rent. Please inform me, at once, whether you wish to go on with your school with such prospects. If I could control means, I should be glad to see you properly remunerated, but I cannot.

Yours &c
