Philip Peyton
Sir:
I am sorry Mr. Hunter has proved to be a bad man, and does not do what he promised. But I cannot keep his promises for him. I will keep my own promises and I can do no more. I do not wish you to teach for $6. per month. I do not wish you to teach at all, and never engaged you to teach. I will pay for the two months I promised and no more. I am sorry you are disappointed, but I am not responsible.
Yours etc.

All I can do is to pay you $5 per month from The first of Feb.
Mr. Hunter had no business or authority to make any promises, and it is impossible for me to keep his promises for him. If you do not wish to teach for the $5 let me know.
Yours etc.
