Miss Rachel E.R. Thompson

Dear Friend
I have just heard from Capt. Schaeffer that you are at Salem. I am very glad you are there for I believe you have the energy prudence, piety and skill in teaching necessary to make a success, in the midst of obstacles. You are on the right side, because you are on the side of peace, charity and a united public school; the other party is on the wrong side, because they are factious, partisan and and quarrelsome. I would be glad to hear from you how you are getting along.

C.S. Schaeffer, Asst. Sup &c

I thank you for your interesting Report. Be your own judge of the division and distribution of your time. I am fully satisfied that you are always doing the best thing for the time.

Mr. Spencer wishes you to send your January time at once, but the expense you may retain and consolidate with the Feb. expense.
