[[?]]Col. John G. Chandler
Chf. Q. Master, Dist. Va
Richmond, Va

Colonel,
I have the honor to request that the frame buildings erected by the Q.M. Department at Farmville, Va. for a Mess. house and Rake. house, may be reserved from sale, and such steps taken as shall secure, from the Hon. Secretary of War, the use of said buildings for a school-house for the children of Freedmen.
The Confederate barrack building at that place, now used for school purposes, being in such a state of decay as to be untenable.

I am, Colonel
Very respectfully
Your obt. Servant
R. M. Manley
Supt. of Ed
