Dear Sir:
In regard to a school for yourself and Miss Barton, I think that at Hampton Va. offers the greatest advantages. It enables the scholars to do a great deal toward their own support.
You had better correspond with
Gen. S.C. Armstrong
Principal Normal & Agriculatural Inst. Hampton Va.
and he will tell you all about it

Dear Sir:
I agree with you that your school needs desks very much and that the grounds need to be put in better order. At the same time I am sorry to inform you that I have not been able to obtain any money for repairs for more than a month, and do not know that any more can be had at all. Several applications have been refused.
Yours &c
