Rev. John Lewis

Dear Sir: I have read the proceedings of the meeting of which you were the Pres. It had been my intention, before hearing from you, to have Miss Moss teach in the new school-house at Boydton. I hope she will begin at once. It will be necessary for the people to provide for her board to her satisfaction, and also to provide fuel &c and for the children to have books. All I can do is to pay her $15 per month as her salary, and she will be expected to have an average daily attendance of upwards of 30 pupils. If the school should be so large as to require an assistant and the average attendance should be 60 or upward, I should expect to pay the assistant $10 per month, and the people would have to provide for the board.

Yours truly
R.M. Manly
