Mrs. Jessie H. Rupert
Dear Madam: I wrote you on the 4th - the date of yours just rec'd.

I am not able, now, to fix the exact date of my visit to your section, but intend it for the latter part of April, or just as soon as the state of the roads and the season of the year will make it pleasant and easy to travel. While I should be glad
to meet with you and see if something cannot be devised for your benefit: yet such is the present uncertainty in regard to the time, and possibly the fact of my visit, that you would not be justified in delaying your journey at all on account of it. What will be the earliest season that a trip from Staunton to Harpers Ferry would be pleasant and agreeable My appropriations are still stayed at Washington, as when I wrote.

accept my thanks for your kind invitation to your house.

Yours Very Truly
