Thos J. Lythgoe

Sir: Yours of the 2d inst is recd. My letter, to which you allude was dated Oct. 12, 1869 and a copy of it is before me. There is nothing in it like saying that if you were admitted into some association I would allow you rent, but the contrary. I had been allowing you $5. per month rent, and discontinued it, Sept. 30th, in order that the Pa. Branch F. U. Com. might commission you and draw $10. per month from the Bureau for you. The society has been drawing that sum ($10) from the Bureau for you. I hope you have rec'd it.

The Bureau cannot pay in two directions for the same school. Please look at my letter again and see that you have mistaken its meaning.

Yours Truly
