Miss C. F. Putman

Yours of the 9th to Genl. Howard has been referred to me, and yours of the 11th is rec'd. I have been at home but two half days in eleven days past; reached here last night after seven days absence, and found a telegram from the Sargt. of Arms Ho. of Ref[[?]] to go to Washington as a witness in the Genl Howard case, and when I shall return I have duties here to detain me for a week. The fact that I do not, at once, go to Lottsbury is evidence that, in my best judgment, I ought to be doing other duty. Your case is not the only one where something is at stake. I shall come as soon as I can or more probably send Saml. Jones my asst. supt. He also has engagements out every day for the rest of this month.

Very Truly Yours
