Miss Caroline F. Paterson

I have today sent Geo. B. Parker $5 for Feb. In my letter to him dated March 9. I informed him that this suriety would begin with Feb. 1. He sent vouchers for Jan. I cannot pay them as my accounts are [[strikethrough]] paid [[/strikethrough]] settled to Feb. 1. Judging from the evidences of his reports I do not think it right to pay him for teaching except to keep my engagement. I do not doubt that he is very worthy and very needy, but the scanty fund I disburse is designed to aid competent teachers. I cannot pay him after the present month.

My Asst Supt will visit you to see if anything can be done in the matter of the lot the last of next week.

Yours truly
R. M. Manly
Supt Ed

Dear Madam: The teacher Miss Brooks who was recently transferred from Abingdon to Bristol, because there were only pupils enough at Abingdon for one teacher, will unless you object be immediately transferred from Bristol to Big Lick, Roanoke Co. The people at Bristol entirely failed of their pledges and would not send their children to school. She had but 17 scholars, and she desires to be moved. The school at Big Lick will furnish a good field; it belongs to the Phil. Friends and is under the immediate and efficient supervision of their agt. If you will drop her from your list, they will take her up.

Yours Truly
R. M. Manly
Supt Ed
