War Department Bureau, &C,
F. 5. Vol 1/70. L.R.~ Office Supt of Education
Bureau R.F. and A.L.
Richmond, Va, Jany 26. 1870.
Respectfully returned to Bvt Major General O. O. Howard, U.S.A. Commissioner,
Having had further correspondence with the Friends Freedmens Association of Phil, I would
respectfully recommend that the Govt. Building at Danville, be transferred to Anthony M.
Kimber - Elliston P. Morris and Richard Cadbury. Trustees of said Association, the said transfer
to date from January 1st, 1870.
The land on which the building stands cannot be purchased, as it belongs to minor heirs residing in a distant state. But it can be held on lease as long as desirable, and when it should become desirable or necessary to sell, the deed of transfer will require the proceeds of the sale to be devoted to educational purposes. &C.
The above arrangement will be satisfactory to the Association and very desirable, I think on the part of the Bureau.~

War Department Bureau: &C.
W.40. Vol 1/70. L.R.~ Office Supt of Education
Bureau R.F. and A.L.
Richmond, Va. Feb, 11. 1870.
Respectfully returned to Bvt, Major General O. O. Howard, U.S.A. Commissioner with the following information. Viz:
The buildings were "Confederate property" - Only one building is occupied by a school. The others are occupied by troops who are about to leave the place. All the buildings are old and of little value. The one occupied by a school, can be sold, with the understanding that it is not to be removed until the school closes. It is not worth retaining for school purposes. The buildings, now occupied by the military, will be carried away peice-meal unless sold, as soon as possible, after they are evacuated~
