Mecklenburg Co. Va. April 27th 1869
To the Supertendant of the Bureau of Education for Virginia at Petersburg Va
Dear Sir
The Freedmens Bureau for this County Contracted with me to Build a School House on my Lands last fall, and I hired work men and had a Good House Built, with two large Glass windows, & fitted up with Seats et cetera, and a new Stove. He agreed that I should be paid Eight Dollars per month, for Six Mos. at least, Say to the first of July next.
There has been a School of Coloured Children taught there Since the first Feby last.
He wrote a triplicate Contracts to have effect and I Signed them; & he was to Send them on to you to Sign, & Return one of them to me. I have heared nothing of them Since; He left here in Feby I think and I heared nothing of him upon the Subject; This is therefore to Call Your attention to the Subject and request you to inform me, when & where I can get the Rent for the House; He may have failed to have forwarded on the Contract to you; If So, I am ready & willing to Sign others provided I can , and am to be paid the Rent as agreed on. He also said that there would be paid Twenty five cents per month for each Scholar taught by the Teacher at the School House, that I had put up. [[struck out]] He [[/Struck out]] over
