27 Bureau of R.F. & A.L. Office of Asst. Supt. of Schools- Virginia, Christiansburg, Montgomery County, Va., Sept. 21st 1869, Rev. R.M. Manly Supt. of Education, Va. Sir: Yesterday I transmitted report of tour of inspection, but received the following additional information on this date. Neither a House nor Lot can be secured for School purposes in Drapers Valley, Pulaski Co., and Mark L Smith "Col'd" (cripple) teacher in that neighborhood (and very acceptable to the people) is anxious to open a school at some other point. At Lapsley's Run, Botetourt Co. 9 miles north of Fincastle there are 40 Scholars for Day School - with a good House sufficiently large and comfortable, owned by the Freed people. They never had a School - with rare exceptions all the Pupils will start in A.B.C. Will be ready by the 1st of October. Have a colored Teacher in their field, whose services could be secured at $25. per month, and just suited for the place. The Colored people will furnish Room and board for the Teacher.
